Ecstatic

Have you ever seen The Lion King??? Well, if you remember that part when Rafiki finds out Simba is still alive and he starts freaking out and laughing wildly because he is so happy- that = me.

On the 16th of June I had just gotten home around 9PM from this art show I was in and I was hanging out in my room when my brother comes in and says: 'I got a surprise for you...' I figured it was just something dumb- and then, he held out his hands and there it was. My sketchbook. I was absolutely shocked. Then, when it finally hit me what I was seeing I started bawling like a baby because I was so overjoyed.

He found it on the front door step- we have no clue who dropped it off, who had it/where its been, or where it was found. The book was the same as it was when I saw it last. No pages were torn out, damaged, or written on and all the things I had tucked in the back cover were still there. The only difference is that on the inside of the front cover, someone (with very neat handwriting) had written my address. Mysterious no?

It really does eat me up wondering who returned it, but I guess it doesn't matter. I'm just glad I have it again. Funny, it was only missing for 22 days, but it feels like its been a lot longer.

Thieves

Well, my 2nd sketchbook was stolen on May 26th 2004.
I was letting my friends draw in the back of it so I could have something to remember them by (I'm graduating on the 2nd of June) and one of my friends left it someplace and someone took it. I'm angry at my friend, but she was so upset about it already and I didn't want her to feel the piercing sadness that I do, so I told her not to worry about it even though it's tearing me up inside.

I don't know how much heart I'll have to touch pencil to paper now-a-days, so I probably won't post here too much.
(not that anyone's gonna miss me or anything)

That book meant so much to me! I poured my 'soul', my all, into every page. This was not just a book of sketches as the name implies- every page was a complete artpiece. Imagine it- Over 50 complete pieces gone (including deviations: Music, How I Love Them, Macaws, Yin and Yang, Clinging, Mother of All Light, Expedition: Uncharted Planet, and Migration.)

That book was a crucial part of my portfolio for college. At any college interview, it was always the thing that impressed my interviewers most. I'm afraid that no coleges will think I'm good enough without it now. That's how good I felt about it.

And it isn't just about the art either! That book was full of memories. In the back, I kept my friends' phone numbers, screen names, things they drew, programs from plays I saw, a tiny but perfect feather, meaningful quotes, etc.

I'm getting incredibly upset just thinking about all of this. I won't be truly happy again for a long time judging by how sad I was when my last sketchbook got stolen (November 21st 2003)

My deviation, Fragmented Memorial, is a photograph of what is left of my sketchbook: 4 slides. They are arranged on a clear CD cover and held over a lamp so you can see them. Top left- baby tiger, top right- man with giant cats, bottom left- goat people on a journey, bottom right- flamingoes.

Well, I'll see ya when I see ya.

Happy Smile Time

Yes, I know, something I never thought I'd hear coming out of my mouth. Reason:
The other night I had a dream that I was Nami from the new Harvest moon game. In the dream, I cheated on the farmer with another guy in town, Marlin, and then we went into the woods and catapulted rotten fruit at the farmer's farm. It was crazy.
I wonder if you wife can really leave you in that game?
Nah... most likely not.
